West Midlands businesses: Unlock funding with the Business Energy Advice Service

Aa a business, Harvest Green Developments work closely with organisations across the UK to deliver renewable energy solutions that support cost savings, carbon reduction and long-term energy resilience. That’s why we’re committed to sharing critical updates around funding availability, including the launch of the Business Energy Advice Service (BEAS) for businesses in the West Midlands and surrounding areas.

BEAS is a government-backed pilot programme that offers free energy assessments and 50% match-funded grants of up to £100,000 to support small and medium-sized enterprises (SME’s) in making energy efficiency improvements. With no payback required on the grant, it presents a valuable opportunity for businesses looking to invest in renewable technologies such as solar PV and battery storage.

The Business Energy Advice Service has been introduced to help companies manage energy use, cut carbon emissions and lower running costs through practical upgrades. From our experience installing commercial solar and storage systems, we understand how important funding support like this can be in turning sustainability plans into action.

Eligible businesses must be SMEs operating in the West Midlands Combined Authority area, which includes: Birmingham, Solihull, Sandwell, Dudley, Walsall, Wolverhampton and Coventry. It also extends to businesses in Staffordshire, Stoke-on-Trent, Warwickshire, Worcestershire, Herefordshire, Shropshire and Telford and Wrekin.

To qualify for the Business Energy Advice Service, businesses must be classified as an SME, use at least 25,000 kWh of electricity or gas each year, be a profit-seeking commercial enterprise, operate from a commercial property for at least 12 months and be responsible for paying the business’s own energy bills.

The Business Energy Advice Service can support a wide range of upgrades. Funding can be used for solar panels, battery storage systems, LED lighting with sensors and smart controls, heat pumps, replacement boilers, building insulation, improved refrigeration, ventilation systems and water-saving equipment. It can also contribute to waste and recycling equipment such as balers, compactors and crushers. These upgrades can significantly reduce energy costs, improve operational efficiency and lower carbon emissions.

The scheme offers more than just funding. Each participating business also receives a free expert energy assessment. This allows business owners to understand their current energy use, identify inefficiencies and receive tailored advice on where improvements will have the greatest impact. At Harvest Green Developments, we see this assessment as a crucial first step towards a structured energy strategy that delivers measurable results.

The Business Energy Advice Service aligns with the UK government’s wider goal of reaching net zero emissions. Harvest Green Developments shares this mission and actively supports the transition by delivering high-quality solar PV and battery storage solutions to businesses nationwide. We believe that when organisations are informed and supported, they’re far more likely to take decisive action towards sustainability. That’s why we are promoting the availability of BEAS to our clients and business networks across the West Midlands.

We encourage eligible businesses to act quickly. As a pilot programme, the Business Energy Advice Service has limited funding and a fixed delivery window. Once funds are allocated, there is no guarantee of extension or renewal. Early registration increases the likelihood of securing financial support for your energy improvements.

We have experience guiding businesses through funding schemes like BEAS. We support our clients from initial eligibility checks through to energy planning, system design and installation. Our team can help prepare the information required for assessments and advise on how to align your improvement plans with BEAS grant criteria.

This is not just about installing solar panels or battery storage for renewable energy. It’s about building resilience against future energy price increases, demonstrating sustainability credentials to stakeholders and creating more efficient, future-focused operations. With funding support now available through the Business Energy Advice Service, there has never been a better time to start if you are in the eligible area.

If you’re based in an eligible area and want to explore renewable energy options such as solar PV and battery storage, our team is here to guide you.
