Meta Description:
See how Casepak achieved over £2.4 million in lifetime energy savings and significant carbon reductions with solar PV installations from Harvest Green Developments, supporting sustainability and operational efficiency.
Lifetime savings: £2,476,000
Casepak harness the power of the sun to cut costs and carbon.
Casepak Ltd, a leading UK waste handling and recycling business, has taken a major step toward sustainability with two commercial solar PV installations across its Leicester sites. Partnering with Harvest Green Developments, Casepak has successfully reduced energy costs and carbon emissions while strengthening its commitment to eco-friendly operations and responsible waste management.
The project involved two distinct sites with unique operational profiles. The CPF site in Warren Park Way focuses on high-quality recyclable materials, including paper, cardboard, and plastics, processing them for re-use across the UK. The MRF site in Sunningdale Road is a larger mixed waste recycling facility, sorting general household waste for secondary processing. Each site presented different challenges and opportunities for renewable energy integration, which Harvest Green expertly navigated.
Significant savings and carbon reductions from day one
The CPF installation, completed in December 2025, consists of 560 high-efficiency Longi Solar panels generating 344.4kW. The MRF installation, completed in January 2026, features 2,552 panels generating 1,569.48kW. Both systems are equipped with Solaredge inverters and optimisers, mounted on K2 systems, with full monitoring via Solaredge and Juggle Energy platforms to maximise performance.
From the moment the systems were energised, Casepak began reducing its reliance on the national grid. CPF now achieves a 30% reduction in grid energy use, while MRF sees a 26% reduction. Across both sites, the lifetime energy cost savings are projected to exceed £2,476,000, alongside a lifetime carbon reduction of approximately 8,795 tonnes.
Overcoming challenges with expertise and safety
Each site required careful planning due to existing roof structures and skylights. At CPF, all skylights were oversheeted to accommodate the panels safely. At MRF, two-thirds of skylights were oversheeted, while the remaining were fitted with permanent sunlight covers. Permanent edge protection and cat ladders were installed to maintain the highest health and safety standards too.
The project also required close collaboration with Casepak’s insurers. Following a fire incident at the MRF site in 2024, insurance compliance was a critical factor. Harvest Green Development’s meticulous approach and adherence to industry-leading standards gave both the client and insurers confidence in the project, highlighting how professional solar installations mitigate risk and ensure long-term reliability.
Efficiency, performance, and operational impact
Both sites benefit from real-time monitoring and a full maintenance package through the PPA model, guaranteeing optimal performance throughout the system’s lifetime. CPF exports 30% of its generated energy, while MRF exports 15%, contributing further to cost reductions.
These savings have tangible business impacts. At MRF, for example, the energy savings of approximately £60,000 per year can now be redirected into other growth areas, supporting operational efficiency and competitiveness. By reducing dependence on the grid, Casepak has strengthened its resilience while demonstrating leadership in sustainable practices within the waste sector.
A partnership for a greener future
Harvest Green Developments is proud to support Casepak in achieving its renewable energy goals. By delivering tailored solutions that account for operational complexities, safety, and insurance compliance, we have helped the business cut costs, lower carbon emissions, and improve sustainability credentials for local authorities and commercial partners.
Looking ahead, Casepak is exploring additional solar PV opportunities and the integration of battery storage to further enhance energy independence and support long-term CSR initiatives.
